Authorize the use of Waste Containers in Mulgrave-and-Derry
The Issue
As a resident deeply affected by this issue, I am writing to express my concern over the recent municipal decision to replace garbage containers with bins. This decision was made without any public consultation. Any attempt at making unhappy citizens heard over the issue has been shut down. Residents of Mulgrave-et-Derry feel unheard, disregarded and democratically deprived.

This decision will be a financial burden for communities coping with waste collection at the end of their private road. The new system will require the purchase of an array of small bins to replace large containers. New measures will be required to deal with overly complicated year-round waste management, and increased security and environmental concerns. To ensure acceptable pick-up conditions for the service provider, management of the garbage collection site in winter will quickly become a burden and could eventually require private management contracting.
It is shameful to design a waste management system that saves money for the municipality while causing a significant financial burden on property owners. We urge the municipality of Mulgrave-et-Derry to re-examine their ill-informed decision and consider a solution that serves every citizen’s needs, is environmentally responsible, and does not transfer the financial burden onto targeted groups of taxpayers.
We ask the municipality to allow the use of large waste containers by lake associations and any other entities making legitimate requests in accordance with Mulgrave-et-Derry By-law 2023-08, article 8.
