Authorise UK Official Veterinarians to Certify Pet's Identity for Export to Australia

Authorise UK Official Veterinarians to Certify Pet's Identity for Export to Australia
The Issue
As a devoted pet owner, I am faced with an emotionally challenging predicament: the thought of leaving my nervous yet beloved canine companion in Australian quarantine for a drawn-out period of 30 days. Many pet parents share my concerns - the wellbeing of our furry friends is paramount. This drew our attention to a crucial regulatory change that could considerably ease their distress - allowing official veterinarians in the UK to verify the identity of pets for export to Australia, thus reducing the mandatory quarantine period from 30 to 10 days.
From a public health perspective, ensuring the wellbeing of transported animals is just as essential as protecting against potential disease threats. Prolonged confinement can drastically impact an animal's mental health, leading to behavioural changes and increased stress levels.
The majority of European countries have an identification certification process established. Their pets only need to undergo 10 days quarantine despite having the same rabies risk as the UK.
Our petition calls upon the relevant authorities in the UK and Australia to reevaluate this policy to keep the quarantine process as minimal and stress-free as possible for our pets. Your endorsement of this issue underscores the understanding of animal welfare needs during international transits and will make a significant difference in the lives of many pets and their loving owners. Please, sign and share this petition. Together, we can create a productive dialogue and bring about change that respects the welfare of our beloved animals.
