Play Unlimited has observed recent changes in the way toy retailers are advertising in catalogues, online and in-store. Some very positive changes, particularly in a catalogue recently published by Toys R Us 'Book 7, Toys and Learning' where we see images that defy gender stereotypes, of girls playing with power tools, using lawn mowers and boys pushing prams for example. http://catalogues.toysrus.com.au/home.html Your support for our campaign is making retailers sit up and listen, together we have achieved some positive change. We post updates and examples of these changes frequently on Facebook and we watch closely as toy retailers begin unleashing their Christmas advertising on our mailboxes... No Gender December is an initiative of Play Unlimited, asking parents, grandparents and carers to 'take the pledge' not to put gender stereotypes under the Christmas tree this year... Greens Senator Larissa Waters is on board and will be co-hosting a Play date in Brisbane, where you can bring the family to learn more about the issues surrounding gendered marketing of toys and meet people like you, who share a belief that 'there's no place for gender stereotypes under the Christmas Tree'. We are also hosting an event in Melbourne - details to be announced shortly. Find out more about both events on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/playunlimited Please visit the No Gender December website to 'take the pledge', to email other politicians your thoughts on this issue or to share the idea with friends and family this Christmas. http://www.nogenderdecember.com Many thanks for your continued support.
