Exclude current PRs from Australian Citizenship changes 2018

Dear Mr Turnbull,

We the undersigned respectfully disagree with the residency requirement changes in the Citizenship Bill 2018 and ask that current Permanent Residents are exempt from the increased residency requirements. The clause that particularly pertains to the four-year wait on permanent residence seems quite unfair and disadvantages many.

We should only be subject to the timelines stipulated at the start of our migration journey. We are not just migrants, Mr Turnbull, we are parents to Australian children, spouses to Australian citizens and contributors to Australian society, communities, economies and industries. We do not deserve to have our political, financial or personal security jeopardised and should, as tax payers and homemakers in Australia, expect that our government would not seek to cause this worry and strain in thousands of Australian homes.

Whatsmore, with these changes being implemented as of the 1st of July 2018, prior to being passed through senate, thousands of applications that could and should be processed are ceased, at a financial cost to all Australian tax payers and a personal cost to many citizenship applicants.

All we ask is that you keep to the parameters set out at the start of the migration process as we have abided to the stipulations in our visas.

Regards
The Australian Community
