Australian Government: To save local pharmacies, jobs and patient services
This petition had 6,969 supporters
Two days before the election was announced, the Federal Government made changes to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) that will drastically reduce the funds that community pharmacies receive to dispense medicines to the public.
These changes will put more than 5,000 local jobs at risk around Australia. Pharmacy opening hours will have to be reduced, as would many of the services that pharmacists and pharmacy assistants provide to the sick and needy in the community.
Some pharmacies would need to close altogether, costing jobs and making it harder to access medicines and other health products and services. Over 400 towns in rural and remote areas have only one pharmacy and its closure would be a huge loss to the local community.
help ensure that pharmacies receive the support they need to stay in business, serve patients, employ staff and remain open after hours.

There’s also an official petition in community pharmacies that will be submitted to the Australian House of Representatives – please visit your local pharmacy for more information and to contribute your signature.
