My name is Jess Colby and I believe that the Australian dingo (Canis lupus dingo) should be made a protected species throughout Australia. I believe that the dingo is at high risk of suffering the same fate as the Tasmanian tiger. The Tasmanian tiger was hunted to the brink of extinction and the government did not put protections in place until it was too late.

As I stated before, I fear the dingo may face the same fate but it shouldn't be that way. Some people may argue that dingoes don't belong in Australia as they occasionally kill cattle. Dingoes unfortunately get a lot of blame for when wild dogs and dingo hybrids kill cattle amplifying the idea that the dingo is a pest that needs to be destroyed. 

But it does not have to be this way. There are alternative solutions such as guardian dogs and government compensation and also programs that work together with people to find a way to decrease human-dingo tensions. Dingoes do Australia a very special deed that humans don't seem to be very successful at. Killing off invasive species and therefore protecting other native wildlife from extinction.

They also keep the populations of animals such as kangaroos from rising too high. Dingoes are an important top order predator in Australia and without them, the ecosystem would then become an unbalanced disaster. The extinction of any animal is a black mark on humanity and must be prevented. We must protect the Australian dingo
