Please don't relocate NICU Services based from the Flinders Medical Centre

There are so many reasons why the NICU services at Flinders Hospital are so important, many of them start and end with the saving lives of our most vulnerable citizens. This service accomodates the needs of preterm and sick infants and their families.
However, on a broader scale, this decision represents the growing inaccessability and inequity in the distribution of health resources across Metropolitan Adelaide and leaves many people South of the city, 'high and dry'. The decision to relocate all Level 6 services (all babies born under 32 weeks, and those babies requiring respiratory support) from Flinders NICU to Womens & Childrens and the new RAH , demonstrates disregard for the requirement of this service and the ongoing needs of constituents South of the city or from rural areas including and extending beyond the Fleurieu Peninsula and Adelaide Hills who make use of the onsite accomodation at the FMC.
Furthermore, Flinders is a teaching hospital. We believe the location of these services on this site play a vital role in the ongoing commitment to excellence in the standard of care provided to all South Australian families, ensuring the safe delivery of bundles of joy for generations to come.
This facility is currently the only location which offers an adult ICU and infant NICU, the two often go hand in hand. Please don't deprive families of the opportunity to recieve care onsite without being seperated and unable to be together. This decision will have lasting impacts on families, impeed on emotional and physical recoveries.
