Why this petition matters

Started by Emma Lawson

Every year in Australia, around 1400 poor little seals die from getting tangled up in fishing line, nets, hooks, and ropes and chocking on litter that us killer humans didn’t dispose of correctly! We need to make a change and we need as much help as possible!

Some devastating evidence has been found that out of all marine mammals IN THE WORLD, 100,000 DIE every year due to litter that we stupidly didn’t put in the bin! Like think about it, there are so many bins we pass by in our everyday lives. You must be incredibly lazy, if you find it that difficult or can’t manage to hold onto a piece of rubbish for a minuscule amount of time, until you pass by a bin that you can put your rubbish in, and therefore, save a marine mammals life!

Every single time you litter or forget to put something in the right bin, you KILL a poor, innocent marine animal! Everyone knows its wrong, but no one tries to help, not even the government, who we need, to be able to make a change. We need them to be able to make a difference and help us grow. They are meant to be here to look after Australia and its native creatures, but clearly, they aren’t capable of doing their job, and are too lazy to even try make a change and save these innocent animals!

The marine animals and seabirds can DIE if they become entangled in fishing lines and ropes! This happens because when they are stuck and caught in all these different deadly materials, they usually are unable to free themselves and untangle themselves. That can then cause the fishing lines and ropes to cut deeply and slice through their thick fur and skin, resulting in infections, and amputations! How sad is this, and how horrible is it to think that all of this is caused because of us humans not being able to do a simple, but crucial action to save our soon to be endangered species!

There is some good news though! A program called seal the loop has been a massive help to try and stop these poor seals and marine life animals from dying due to us humans’ terrible actions. The program has created special bins that have been placed in popular fishing areas to encourage people and fishermen in to start disposing of their fishing line and their other materials and equipment correctly!

There has already been a big improvement! 56% of people who have passed or come across a seal the loop bin has changed their behaviours when it comes to correct waste disposal!

So, sign my petition and let’s increase the 56% to 100% and decrease that 100,000 to 0! By signing my petition, we can encourage everyone to change the way they act when it comes to fishing and littering. Don’t act like this is not your fault, its EVERYONE'S! Own up to the problem and face the consequence! So, who’s in to help save these seals and marine life NOW!
