Children are sexually abused, trafficked, raped and murdered at horrific rates in Australia and around the world. It has been the silent pandemic for centuries, with little to no attention or resolutions for our children.

On 15th June 2020, a new bill was to be voted on by Senators, which would see paedophiles serve a mandatory life in prison. The vote should have been a no brainier at 62-0, BUT politicians can not even agree on what’s best for Australia’s children. The vote ended at 31-31, and as a result the bill was defeated. This shows exactly how politicians in Australia do not care for children’s safety. They prefer to argue and behave like children themselves, more than agree on what’s in the best interest for our children. 

These horrific cases are either not reported on or only stay in the news for a few days... if lucky. The victim children are then simply forgotten about, until the next child is raped or murdered. It’s simply not good enough. 

Human trafficking is the fastest growing illegal trade in the world and the second most profitable, earning traffickers an estimated $150 billion US a year. Child exploitation is a major contributor to this figure, yet the majority of the world stays silent. 

In Australia 2019, 47,000 children were abused or neglected (known cases). Between 2015-2016, 45 children known to child safety, died. 

Politicians either talk the talk to obtain votes or ignore child safety issues all together. Politicians and Child Safety simply do not care for children. Child safety ministers are not doing their job and avoid scrutiny or accountability. They are failing our children in all areas of child safety. 

Even some 20 years after the death of young Broke Brennan in 1999, politicians refuse to act on child safety law reform. Now with the arrests of a mother and step father for the death of young Willow Dunn in 2020, it has put the spotlight back on child deaths and child safety neglect.

Will we wait another 20 years and many more dead, neglected and raped children, before something is done? We can’t and we won’t. 

It’s time we stand as individuals, as a community, as a country, as a global force to say, ENOUGH is ENOUGH. 

Change laws now, in order to protect children from neglect, child predators and murderers.

Rebuild the inadequate and incompetent Child Safety Department, including re-educate and re train staff. Child Safety are responsible for many child deaths. 

Hold those whose job it is to protect children, accountable for ignoring and neglecting innocent children. Accountability must be introduced by law. 

Fix the failing and broken systems that see innocent children being put in the hands of child abusers and pedophiles.  

We want something done now, not in 2040. 

Children are our future and our most precious assets. Let’s join together regardless of race, religion or nationality to say ENOUGH is ENOUGH.
