After 60,000 of us signed this petition asking him to act, on 14 May, Tony Abbott, Prime Minister of Australia, stood up in parliament and announced that he’d be joining other countries like the United States, and the United Kingdom, and declaring Boko Haram - the group that has abducted 200 Nigerian school girls - a terrorist organisation.
We still need to bring these girls home, but this is a significant move after weeks of silence - thanks to everyone who’s signed so far.
More than 200 school girls, many of them my age, have been abducted by a terrorist group in Nigeria who are threatening to sell the girls on the free market. It's shocking.
But the Nigerian government have moved way too slowly – and I’ve read that they don’t even know where the girls are. The global community must intervene, and our government has the opportunity to do this through the UN Security Council.
Our government has offered some support - they must try and do even more. The US government have already sent military and police.
The group that abducted these girls has said they should never be educated. In fact their name “Boko Haram” translates to “Western education is sinful!” They are pure evil. We must not rest until these girls are brought home and with their families.
