Stop Battery Hen Farming

Stop Battery Hen Farming
The issue
Battery cages are used on factory farms to confine egg-laying hens. the vast majority of egg-laying hens live this way, permanently warehoused with tens of thousands of other birds until their slaughter! every single bird has only one single A4 page of living space, and this is what they have to live on for there whole life.
these birds live in artificially lit surrounding just to maximise there laying ability in each battery cage there will be 10 to 20 birds, depending on there size. they don't have any room to do anything a normal chicken would do e.g. grooming, scratching and dust bathing. due to the bird being ripped away from there natural instincts e.g. not being able to choose there own nesting place they will get frustrated, fearful and aggressive. and because we are keeping them in this confined space this triggers behaviours such as pecking, bullying and cannibalism.
Since we AUSTRALIANS are doing this and keeping chickens in these horrible circumstances the workers DE-BEAK the female baby chickens. this may not come out as bad but they don't put them under any anaesthetic and they just grab the female baby chickens and cut there beaks off with a hot blade and throw them into a bucket! this will cause the chicken acute and chronic pain. Male baby chickens on the other hand are gassed, minced or grinded when they are only one day old.
These harmful practices ignore the research that demonstrates just like humans, chickens have preferences, particularly in terms of the environment in which they are kept in!! the people that do these practises don't care about the well being of animals, next time you go to the shops to by caged egg take a moment to think, just a few extra cents? or the pain and agony a battery hen goes though!
