Mark Montgomery started this petition to Australian General Public

The IPA Australia operates as a Charity under the type:
Any other purpose beneficial to the general public...

By signing this petition you are acknowledging the IPA https://ipa.org.au is not beneficial to the general public, and should be stripped of it's charitable status.

The IPA has advocated against the tobacco plain packaging legislation:
Policy director Tim Wilson predicted that the government could be liable for $3 billion in compensation, a claim that was criticised at the time by Media Watch.

The IPA funds client change denial research:
Scientists including Dr Gavin Schmidt, director of the Nasa Goddard Institute for Space Studies; Prof Steven Sherwood  and Prof Piers Forster, director of the Priestley international centre for climate at the University of Leeds, have pointed out to me serious flaws and errors in the IPA paper’s methodology.

To operate as a charity the Australian Charities and Not-for-profit Commission states:

Purposes that will disqualify an organisation from being a registered charity are:
promoting or opposing a political party or candidate for political office

I contend that on multiple occasions that the IPA has breached this rule.
