Stop the use of animals for experimentation in Australia
The issue
Many people are oblivious to the cosmetic products they use daily. Huge corporations try to hide the fact that their products are tested on animals, by deceiving the reader that the product will "whiten their teeth in 14 days!" or "give them long, shiny hair" and even "reduce wrinkles in 10 days!" It's all a massive scam conning you, the consumer, into buying products that do not do what they've advertised to the public.
Animal experimentation to millions of people, like myself and the animals, is a waste of time, money and valuable resources. Animal experimentation in this day and age is not just used for testing if a product is suitable for human use, it is now a multi-billion dollar industry. In relation to animal testing, industries are supplying support services, such as breeding of animals, food, cages, manufacture and the list goes on. In Australia and New Zealand alone, 6 million animals are used for experimentation. That's 6 million animals too many. If someone were to take your dog, cat or rabbit, or take a primate from their natural environment and forced to follow the demands of researchers day in day out, you would never support such an industry. Australians need to understand and know that experimentation on harmless animals does not prove anything. If companies need to test their products on animals, why do they still need to have on their labels "if reaction occurs, stop use of this product"? If animals reacted to ingredients exactly the same way as us (which they do not), why do people still react to the companies' products and/or not get the results they were promised?
There are many alternatives to using animals in experimentation. Humans who volunteer to be tested on, artificial human skin like EpiSkin, EpiDerm and SkinEthic and many other alternatives are rapidly expanding, giving millions of mice, rabbits, guinea pigs, dogs, primates and more, a life that is intended for them, not in a ridiculous laboratory.
If we felt the pain animals endure all the time or witnessed the behind-the-scenes footage of animal testing, every Australian would see how evil and inhumane this is. It is appalling to still read animals are being tested on in the country we live in, especially in the year 2015. Wondering what Australian brands are Certified Cruelty Free? Here are just some of the many brands that are more beneficial for us and most importantly: cruelty free.
