Stop the ABC's biased, unbalanced and anti-Semitic reporting of the Israel Gaza Conflict
The issue
As the child of a holocaust escapee and a South African who grew up at the end of the Apartheid regime, I am horrified at the propaganda, outright lies and complete lack of balance in the ABC's reporting on the Israel-Gaza conflict.
No one endorses the deaths of civilians, most people in both Israel and Gaza want peace. No one is suggesting that everything Israel does is right, however a publicly funded broadcaster spreading the propaganda of Hamas (recognised as a terrorist organisation) without proper investigation and demonising of a nation trying to defend themselves is unacceptable. It is starting to feel a lot like Germany in the 1930's
The use of the Holocaust and Genocide used to demonise Israel is unacceptable. Six Millions Jews were exterminated in the Holocaust 1/3 of the worlds Jewish population. The is no dispute that 900,000 Palestinians were displaced (and significantly paid for that displacement) there are now close to 5 million Palestinians. Casualties of war are not genocide. We also hear no mention of the hundreds of thousands of Jews who were displaced from the Middle East to Israel without compensation.
Apartheid had 155 laws mandating segregation. Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East. Every Israel citizen regardless of colour, religion or origin can vote and hold positions of office. Gaza and the West Bank are not part of Israel, and they haven't held an election in over 12 years. The current leadership has been occupying a 4 year term for 16 years. Where is the outrage?
85% of the International aid that is provided to Palestine is used for weapons, digging tunnels into Israel and to support their leaders lifestyles, only 15% goes to improving the lives of their people.
Hamas hide weapons and their offices in and amongst their people and use their people as shields. They fire rockets from civilian areas, and a significant number of casualties come from misfired rockets. Israel goes to great lengths to not only protect their own people with the development of the iron dome, but also Palestinian Civilians by targeting Hamas infrastructure. No other nation in the world goes to the lengths that Israel does to try to ensure civilian casualties are avoided - certainly not Hamas who fire from civilian areas to civilian areas.
With regards to Peace, in its short life Israel has always traded land for Peace. In 1993 Rabin agreed to exiting Gaza and the West Bank in exchange for the recognition of Israel and agreeing to end violence. Bill Clinton left the Camp David talks in 2005 thinking peace had been negotiated, but Arafat reneged.
It's time the ABC did proper research and presented a balanced unbiased view. It's also time to stop representing the false emotional propaganda as fact, which viewers accept at face value. It's not good enough. Journalism has a responsibility to be objective
