Thank you all so much for signing and sharing this petition. If you aren't keen to personally share the link - you can remind friends and family if ever discussing a much needed Australian Federal ICAC that they can find this petition - and a few other petitions - under Change's search engine if they type in 'ICAC' or 'Federal ICAC'.
After all our need for a STRONG, INDEPENDENT and RETROSPECTIVE Federal ICAC is not about me pushing my personal agenda - but about the Australian people getting the Federal ICAC WE DESERVE - so we can ALL sign MORE than one petition on this subject! The more the merrier perhaps :)
I received a generic email this week from Catherine King about Labor's campaign for an ICAC - which sounds all very well and good - but one has to ask WHY didn't Labor PROTEST about Helen Haines' Federal Integrity Commission Bill being removed from the House of Representatives' Notice Paper in May this year?
In fact one has to ask WHY didn't ANY NEWSPAPER or news service REPORT on the removal of this Bill when one considers all the support it got from experts in the field?
Like EVERY other Federal ICAC Bill that has been introduced into our House of Representatives or Senate from people as diverse as Liberal Independents Helen Haines (2020) and Cathy Mc Gowan (2018) https://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/Joint/Human_Rights/Scrutiny_reports/2014/144/b08to the Greens' Bob Brown (June 2010) https://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Bills_Legislation/Bills_Search_Results/Result?bId=s781 Adam Bandt (2012) https://parlinfo.aph.gov.au/parlInfo/search/display/display.w3p;query=Id:%22legislation/billhome/r4833%22 and Christine Milne (November 2013) https://www.aph.gov.au/About_Parliament/Parliamentary_Departments/Parliamentary_Library/FlagPost/2013/December/The_latest_proposal_for_a_national_integrity_commission EVERY Bill has lapsed - or been conveniently removed (quickly) after being sent to either the Senate's Scrutiny Committee or the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights (Surprise! BOTH Committees 'stacked' with Liberal and Labor Senators or MPs) where lots of 'concerns' were raised over our Politician's Human Rights.
Except for Larissa Waters' National Integrity Commission Bill 2018 (No. 2) - a reworking of Cathy McGowan's Bill - which has only escaped 'the chop' BECAUSE it was passed by the Senate FIRST!
(However few politicians worried about the the Human Rights of OUR fellow poorer Citizens when the Robodebt Legislation was introduced!)
Labor leader Anthony Albanese was MANAGER of Government Business in Julia Gillards' Government when Bob Brown and Adam Bandt's Integrity Commission Bills were sent to Parliamentary Committees to stagnate and die - and while Labor voted for Helen Haines' Bill to be read - they never ONCE championed the Bill, nor raised ANY concerns when it was removed off the Reps Notice Paper.
So WHY should we BELIEVE their Bill will be ANY TOUGHER than the current Government's Clayton's ICAC that Albanese has goaded the LNP over? WHERE is Labor's legislation (their proposed Bill) for Australians and Integrity experts to scrutinise?
I would like to believe Labor wants the kind of Federal ICAC Australian's want - but based on their PAST behaviour?
"I no longer listen to what people say, I just watch what they do. Behavior never lies." ~ Winston Churchill
I'm NOT anti-Labor OR anti-Liberal (if the Politicians who REPRESENT the parties are COMPASSIONATE, ETHICAL and HONEST towards/with Australians) - diverse opinion is what a Democracy is all about!
I have a healthy cynicism of ALL politicians even the Greens - who these days - I tend to vote for!
But we can't have TRUE Democracy if our Politicians MISLEAD us and LIE By Omission as the LNP did to us at the last election - when they told us NOTHING of their agenda to destroy the Family Court WITHOUT any Public Debate FIRST!
Helen Haine's Bill included a Parliamentary Code of Conduct which REQUIRED Politicians to be ETHICAL and HONEST with us.
Is THAT what they were FRIGHTENED of?
