Currently in Australia there is no safe way to relinquish a baby if an Australian finds themselves in dire and desperate circumstances. Consequently, babies are abandoned and often die because there is no well known safe place that they can be relinquished.  

Many babies have died because safe haven laws do not exist in state and territories across Australia. Safe Haven Laws exist in the United States, Asia and Europe and babies can be safely relinquished and potentially reacquainted with their mother or loved one in the future. 

Baby Safe Havens Laws can save the life of a baby. This issue is about people who find themselves in dire and desperate circumstances and baby safe havens provide a safe option for babies and those who relinquish them to safety and security.  

This petition is calling on State and Territory Governments to embrace Baby Safe Haven Laws to allow for the establishment of safe havens whereby people can safely relinquish a baby if they find themselves in dire personal circumstances and can not care for the baby themselves.
