On January 31st, 2020  Jonathon Parker attended his first ever High School basketball game. When the game was over he was eager to head home and enjoy his well deserved weekend. Jonathon Parker never knew he would be attacked and shot 3 times. 16 year old Jonathon Parker left the school auditorium to the DVHS parking lot that was littered with men and teenagers waiting to fight the Deer Valley students specifically Jonathon because of his previous involvement in stopping a friend from being bullied and jumped two days prior. He was a strong advocate for stopping violence and bullying at DVHS. The parking lot was empty with regard to security. Reports from security staff parents and students declare that there was absolutely no security available in the parking lot for the students faculty and parents to safely head to their vehicles. It is also reported that a total of four security were present for the entire event. In addition, the AUSD was aware and informed by DVHS staff that the game was a rival game between Antioch High School and Deer Valley High School and they would require additional security but were given NONE. It is important to note that most School Districts mandate that rival games have security present and that their presence is heightened. Instead, Jonathon Parker had no protection NO ONE was protected that night however Jonathon would pay the ultimate price for the lack of security with his life. Jonathon Parker his brother and other Deer Valley students were approached by a crowd of over 20 individuals adults and teenagers who proceeded to attack Jonathon and others present. After 5 minutes of fighting still no school security and the fight ended. One teenager made the fatal decision to shoot Jonathon over and over and over, still no security. Jonathon D’Wayne Parker laid in his brothers arms dying from a gun shot wound that hit a major artery. He lost his life after 15 hours of fighting, 3 blood transfusions, 3 times being revived and 2 surgeries. I am asking that you sign this petition to ensure that each and every school event and school for that matter has adequate security to protect our children our staff our parents year round. The Antioch Unified School District is responsible for formulating a plan that ensures the protection of their students and staff but have not been successful in doing so. It is reported that AUSD has a budget of 1.5 million to reform their security, yet they have NOT. Please sign this petition to ensure that the Antioch Unified School District reforms their current means of security. Jonathon was a son a child a protector a friend. He was a student of Antioch who was praised by students parents and staff at DVHS for protecting and not engaging or allowing bullying. He lost his life at a game where he should have been protected because security protocols were not followed.
