Empower Community High School in Aurora, CO

Empower Community High School in Aurora, CO
The Issue
There is currently a great need for additional, high-quality schools in North Aurora. Starting in October 2017, the HadaNou Collective partnered with students and families in North Aurora to design and open a high school that awakens hope in the community. The HNC Community Design Team has developed an innovative model for a free public high school with the following mission and vision:
Vision: The World is Ours
Mission: Authentic education: led by students, co-created with community, guided by educators.
Students and families on HNC’s Community Design Team envision a school grounded in the belief that authentic education happens when learning goes beyond the four walls of a classroom and adds value to the larger community. Programming will include:
- Small class sizes (15 students : 1 teacher)
- 1 advisor through all 4 years
- Rigorous academics at your own pace
- Learn by solving real-world problems
- Multi-cultural studies
- Identity & Leadership Development
- Be prepared for college or industry!
- Internships with community organizations

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge the Aurora Public Schools Board of Education to support the Empower Community High School's application to open a charter in Aurora Public Schools in Fall 2019.
