Asa Willett started this petition to Aurora City Council and

Hannah Arendt wrote, "The sad truth is that most evil is done by people who never make up their minds to be good or evil." Her words were in reference to Adolf Eichmann, a critical architect of the Nazi's Final Solution-- whose trial was as boring as it was horrendous.

The war criminal is remembered for claiming, above all else, that he was just doing his job.

Today, many people's jobs are oriented around the GEO ICE Detention Facility in Aurora. Our economic and governmental infrastructure funnels money into their contracts and holdings, and our lives continue while those on the inside suffer.

We are expected to stick to our day jobs, but we cannot let this continue.

The GEO Group has shown repeated disdain for the rights-- and very humanity-- of the people it detains. We have seen the headlines reporting unexplained deaths of children, sexual and emotional abuse at the hands of guards, and it is not unreasonable to expect that we haven't yet seen the worst of what occurs within these cages.

We cannot let it continue.

The work ahead of us is long, and those who wish to keep people locked up do not plan on budging anytime soon. Yet while we fight for no one to be kept behind bars or branded as illegal, there are valuable changes we can demand to chip away at the pain and dehumanization those already detained face.

Sanctuary For All and Abolish ICE: DENVER have collaborated on a list of demands, to be presented to the Aurora City Council and key figures in local government. Our demands aim to address the issues in GEO's operations we have the might to change, to establish a path towards accountability for their crimes against humanity, and keep those inside alive.
