Petition updateUNESCO should withdraw 'Cultural Heritage' recognition from the Aalst Carnival in BelgiumOne last thing

International Movement for Peace and CoexistenceBelgium

Jan 22, 2020
Dear signatory,
Even though UNESCO rightly delisted the Aalst carnival for its repeated antisemitic manifestations, the issue has not gone away.
This poster for the 2020 Aalst carnival, which will take place in February, shows that there will be another stereotypical attack on the Jewish community in Belgium. One shop has stocked over 250 Jewish 'costumes', complete with purses full of gold coins.
IMPAC will:
- attend the event and monitor/record what happens
- correspond with federal and international bodies to press for appropriate action to be taken
- seek a meeting with the board of the federal equalities body (Unia) to ask why they did not condemn the antisemitism in 2019, and what they will do if there is a repeat in 2020
We need your support. All we ask you to do is to like our FB page, and/or add us on Twitter - the more support from you we can show, the better.
