One banner isn’t enough!!

The Issue

Hi friends & family, my names Chloe Lane. I am 19 years old, and was born/raised here in Auburn, New York. Growing up primarily on Van Anden Street, I saw many walks of life everyday, and I am fortunate to have grown up in a home where everyone was welcomed as long as you were respectful. Some of my favorite memories as a kid growing up here in Auburn was sitting on my great grandfathers porch swing, waving to EVERY stranger or neighbor passing by, and for hours on end listening to him spark up so many unique conversations with the ones who took the time to stop & listen. With that being said it has been a huge heart ache seeing hate crimes growing in our community towards our fellow POC during these times of racial injustices. My great grandfather never punished me, and would yell at my parents for spanking me. He praised to them “she will make a change in this world someday” so for that reason I’ve made it a point to ALWAYS use my voice. With kind hearts from members of Westminster Presbyterian Church they have put up a “Black Lives Matter” banner in front of the church located on William St. , but in recent devastating events it’s been tampered with one to many times.
So here’s my petition for the city to paint on South Street in front of City Hall & NYS Equal Rights Heritage Center “BLACK LIVES MATTER” in hopes that it will be an eye opener to some people that our friends & families of color are here to stay. They deserve to be here, to be respected, and to be protected just as equally as people of non-color are!
