Save lives, eliminate prison hotspots

Save lives, eliminate prison hotspots
The Issue
FSL Danbury is a Federal prison in Danbury CT that has been designated a Coronavirus hotspot by Attorney General Barr. Danbury is a priority to reduce the population through home confinement. No one has been sent home as of 4 16 2020. The facility is a warehouse with all communal necessities such as shower, toilet, eating and sleeping in cubicles of 4 inmates/each. The cubicles are 100 Sq. feet. Social distancing requires 144 Sq. feet for 1 person. Each cubicle has an adjacent cubicle on three sides. So every cubicle is overcrowded by 400%.
Women are sick and medical treatment is slow or non responsive. My sister in Law Christina Korbe cared for some of the sick and we believe she has the virus. She has been coughing for two weeks. Her ribs are in pain from coughing. She has had headaches for 11 days. She had a fever for 5 days but they did not take her temperature. She could not get out of bed for 5 days. She has a loss of smell and apatite. They cannot/will not perform a test. It took them over a week to get her any medical attention. They released a person that did test positive back into the population. Christina has 13 months (May 18 2021) before she would have been released to a halfway house.
The virus comes in and it goes out 3 times daily. When it comes out it goes into the community at all shift changes and with deliveries and contractors. The life threatening danger is to the inmates, the staff and the community. By aggressively following Attorney General Barr’s directive the population would be reduced and allow for greater social distancing. Inmates were sentenced to serve time not to be executed in the dangerous environment of a pandemic petri dish. This is for all concerned. While incarcerated Christina has lost her father several years ago. Her mother is 87 and has had 3 strokes while incarcerated. Her children now in high school and College have not had their mother home since 2008. Please sign her petition to get her to a halfway house or home confinement to reduce the population and protect all inmates, staff and the Danbury region.
