Meet Olaf, Ana and Elsa - three siblings who were almost not here with us.
These three were very very lucky.
Found at 7am on a Tuesday morning purely out of sheer luck - Mulligan Meows volunteers had been out to the site of the demolition work the previous afternoon to warn that there were colonies of cats in the area.
Jeff and his wonderful demolition team took extra precautions with that knowledge and did a thorough check before starting work that day - and look what they found under the floor boards of a property that had already been 75% demolished.
Had Jeff and the team not taken this extra care, they would have had the awful discovery hours later - an awful ending for these beautiful kittens and a horrendous discovery for the workers just trying to do their jobs.
What would help this situation is the availability of well planned and well executed free/low cost desexing for residents AND a targeted and highly proactive TNR project in this neighbourhood.
Campbelltown Council - let’s get together and get this done!
We are horrified to think of all the not-so-lucky scenarios similar to this for both workers and the innocent kittens that undoubtedly happen all the time.
These are living, breathing animals who don’t deserve such a fate and innocent workers who are just trying to do their jobs and do not need the guilt on their minds that they have caused the traumatic death of unsuspecting cats and kittens.
TNR work DOES reduce the numbers of colony cats in community - making it safer for them, safer for native wildlife, safer for companion and domesticated cats and more peaceful for residents.
It will also reduce the pressure on local rescues and the demand on the Animal Care Facility, a council-operated program in itself.
Please - make sure you’re sharing the petition on your socials, to your friends and family and remember that you don’t have to live in Campbelltown to sign it! Just love cats and kittens and have a desire to see them living their best lives.
