Residents broke into applause when the Amazon to Reuse Boxes Initiative was presented at the Fairfax Town Council meeting this week and the Council responded by unanimously endorsing the initiative.

Fairfax is the fourth community in Marin County to endorse the Amazon to Reuse Boxes Initiative, joining Larkspur, Belvedere, and Muir Beach.

There is heartfelt agreement that the avalanche of Amazon boxes and plastic mailers being discarded needs to be slowed by encouraging reuse. What better way to do this than to partner with Amazon, the world’s largest user of cardboard boxes and a master of logistics, in a local pick up program!

Conservation International advises that 10,000 signatures are needed from Marin residents to demonstrate to Amazon that there is widespread interest in an Amazon pick up program.

Hundreds of Fairfax residents have signed the petition (both loyal and skeptical Amazon users) and 5,400 residents throughout Marin.

This is a local initiative and so important to keeping Marin County beautiful. Forward the petition to others in Marin. Every signature makes a difference.
