Westhampton Beach Village is leasing 172 South Country Road, Quiogue, to CVE North America Solar Company to install an over 4,000 panel solar farm?

While the prospect of renewable energy is promising, it is essential to consider how this project might affect our community.

Some Specific Concerns: 

-        This property abuts a residential community.

-        The location is in close proximity to Quogue Wildlife Refuge and a creek that runs under South Country Road.

-        The property will be clear cut prior to installation. Upsetting residing wildlife (deer, fox, wild turkeys, ground hogs, chipmunks, to name a few), a plethora of resident and migrating birds, and other flora and fauna.

-        The constant buzzing noise from the equipment will be heard beginning one-hour before sunrise until one-hour after sunset, for 365 days a year. 

-        Unknown health concerns to humans and wildlife residing in close proximity of a solar farm for an extended period of time.

-        Increased fire and electrocution hazards for our volunteer firefighters.

-        Possible interference with the landing operations at Gabreski Airport.
