Calicivirus in Rabbits known as Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHD) is released by the Department of Primary Industries to control the wild rabbit population..This disease kills within 48 hours destroying the rabbits internal organs ..Tasmania does Not have plagues of wild rabbits such as those in other states of Australia. The Calicivirus is devestating to domestic rabbits with many breeders being hit with the virus and loosing entire stock with a loss of not just emotional pain and heartache but thousands of dollars worth of rabbits...Also heartbreaking for anyone that looses their beloved bunny friend to this horrific disease. It is well known that with many different strains of this virus the anual vaccine has little to no effect against this disease with many breeders loosing entire vaccinated stock.
