Nominate Jim Mitchell #86 in the Atlanta Falcons Ring of Honor
The Issue
Jim Mitchell was a 4th round draft choice by the Falcons from Prairie View A&M in 1969. He started all 11 years and was a team captain all 11 years. He was elected to the pro bowl two seasons...1969 and 1972. Even though he hasn’t played in over 40 years during an era where the tight end was mainly a blocker, he is still in the Falcons top ten 10 in:
YARDS
TOUCHDOWNS
RECEPTIONS
GAMES PLAYED
He was the first to score a touchdown in playoff history for the Falcons and the first to score a touchdown in the Falcons/Saints rivalry.
Jim Mitchell was a pillar of the community and consistently volunteered his time and money in children programs across the City of Atlanta. He also coached at Morehouse College and Morris Brown College. He would head up football camps with other former football players in Tennessee and Georgia. There is a annual memorial camp held in his honor at William Walker gym for 12 years running!
Numerous times former players get forgotten in helping build the history of your favorite teams. Jim Mitchell is a prime example of this. PLEASE SIGN TO SUPPORT JIM MITCHELL TO BE NOMINATED IN THE ATLANTA FALCONS RING OF HONOR. Him and other Falcons deserve this HONOR.
