The following petition has been created with the intentions of demonstrating the extensive support that exists for David Dews. Coach Dews is nonetheless a vital component in the Lindsey Wilson College softball team and their success. We are seeking the support of anyone who knows Dews personally, along with those who have seen/been positively impacted by him. He has served as a role model to myself, former and current players, and the community around him. Dews has changed the lives of every athlete that he has had the chance to work with over the course of his coaching career in softball.

Coach Dews is facing termination for a verbal altercation that transpired between him and another coach. The termination was explained as being based “solely on the events that transpired in that situation.” This means that the events leading up to this altercation or the need for him to defend his name and reputation were not at all considered in Lindsey Wilsons decision of termination. With that being said, it is not justifiable to fire Coach Dews off of that one event and leave the members of the Lindsey Wilson softball team without a head coach for the remainder of the 2022 season.

Lindsey Wilson has claimed to care the most about the members of the softball team, but by leaving the team without a head coach in mid season, as well as not listening to or considering the thoughts of the team members, Lindsey Wilson lacks in showing support for the  athletes affected by this decision. This wrongful termination does not only affect Coach Dews, it affects his family, the community members, former players, current players, and future players.

Coach David Dews has treated me like family since the first day I became a part of his softball program four years ago. All I can say is that it is an honor to have had the opportunity to play for such an amazing and successful coach. I cannot express my appreciation enough for Coach Dews taking me in and shaping me into the strong woman that I am today.
