Hesam Shaeri Hesari Continues Hunger Strike in Moria on Lesvos
Yesterday Hesam announced that he was transferred to the detention center (section B) inside the Moria refugee camp on Lesvos, Greece. He continued his hunger strike, that he started 18 days ago. Three days ago Hesam also stopped drinking.
Hesam was transferred to Moria prison a few days ago, after he was imprisoned at the police station for about 80 days. Like other refugees in section B, Hesam was not allowed to use his cell phone to inform people about his transfer. In section B detainees are only allowed to use their cell phones once a week.
The Iranian refugee is in hunger strike for 18 days now and today is his third day of his dry hunger strike. His request for asylum was rejected, state authorities want to deport him. In Iran he was a political activist and converted his religion. In Iran Hesam’s life is in danger. The EU asylum system doesn’t seem to bother the fact that Hesam’s life is in danger when he gets deported. The fact that Hesam has a medical report about his psychological issues and that his physical condition has worsened after earlier hunger strikes, doesn’t stop authorities from keeping him in prison in the so-called EU “hotspot” Moria.
Arash Hampay wrote on his Facebook page that nobody is allowed to visit Hesam at the moment. Arash also wrote: “I had already experience of being in political and dictatorships prisons in Iran. In spite of having political activity against the regime but even I had right to call and used my cellphone but Hesam without having any crime and just for claiming asylum is kept in prison without having the visiting allowance.”

Arash and his brother Amir both came to Greece at the same time with the exact same asylum pleas, but Arash's was accepted and his brother's was not. Now he's been forced to leave his brother behind on Lesvos and relocated to Athens.
The Greek Asylum Office has yet to give any explaination as to why.
