Today a group of No Border Kitchen comrades joined Arash Hampay in a 24-hour hunger strike, standing in solidarity with him on the 36th day of his own hunger strike. Arash’s hunger strike will not end until the Greek authorities free #BahroozArash and #KhozinHussein, currently imprisoned without trial in the inhumane Section B detention centre in Moria prison camp. Bahrooz and Khozin were themselves on a 35-day hunger strike, but late yesterday evening we received the news that their strike has ended. The strikers have lost 30 per cent of their body weight and are close to death, but the authorities still refuse to transfer them to the hospital to receive urgent medical care. #BahroozArash and #KhozinHussein realized that the Greek government, EU and UN didn’t care about the fact that they were dying. We call on these institutions to show compassion and allow the hunger strikers access to the medical attention they need. We demand an end to the brutal violations of human rights, deprivation, humiliation, psychological and physical abuse which refugees face daily here and across the world. We demand an end to the illicit and arbitrary detention of refugees for months without trial. We demand an end to the systematic deportation of refugees to face persecution, torture and death abroad.
