Don't Destroy The East Coast Fishing Industry!

I have to bring to your attention that the East Coast fishing industry is under threat. In some way shape or form, past or present all members of the Lowestoft community and others up and down the East Coast have a link to the fishing industry. Please sign, share and spread your support to keep an industry alive that so many brave men have sacrificed their lives for.

On the 31st January 2014 a bombshell was dropped upon Lowestoft Fishing Market. The Lowestoft fishing industry is being forced off the market to make room for the latest craze of windfarm's off the East Coast. This is fantastic news for the local area, but not for the East Coast fishing industry that has been here for centuries. Galloper Windfarm and East Anglia 1 are planning to operate out of Hamilton/Waveney Dock, the current location of Lowestoft Fish Market.

The fishermen, auctioneers and merchants have been told to ‘get ready to move’ they are being forced out of a port we have been part of for hundreds of years, a port that was built and paid for by the fishermen in 1985 with the help of government funding. This is a crucial detail that these energy giants and associated British ports are failing to respect, the 250 fishermen working up and down the east coast and rightful stakeholders in this market.

If Lowestoft Fish Market is bullied out of Hamilton Dock then you can say goodbye to the East Coast fishing industry. This will have a devastating effect on the local and wider community, the supply chain involved is substantial.

The Lowestoft fishing industry are not anti-windfarm's, we welcome them to the local area but not at the cost of the East Coast fishing industry. The Lowestoft fishing industry wants to work in harmony, as a team with Scottish Power and RWE just like we have in the past with Siemens. The Greater Gabbard windfarm has been operating out of Hamilton/Waveney Dock for over three years now and Lowestoft fishing industry has been nothing but supportive and respectful, all we ask is that this is returned.

You can help make a difference and save the East Coast fishing industry.
