The purpose of this petition is to have Stephanie Martinez removed from her senate seat within ASLMU.

LMU student news organization Agency reported that Senator for Diversity and Inclusion Stephanie Martinez made anti-immigrant statements on twitter. These tweets used derogatory and dehumanizing language about immigrants, supported detention centers and also threatened to call ICE in her tweets- this is a serious offense as we have undocumented students on campus. We are concerned for their safety and the safety of all students. This is all deeply concerning considering that, “the ASLMU Senate serves as a representative of and advocate for the needs and interests of all undergraduate students at LMU and provide accountability and competence through oversight. The legislative authority of the ASLMU shall be vested in the Senate” (ASLMU website). 

Stephanie Martinez is not suitable to serve as a Senator for Diversity and Inclusion based on the statements she has made. These statements do not advocate for the needs and interests of ALL undergraduate students at LMU. To advocate for all students also means to advocate for undocumented students. 

ASLMU must act in the students’ best interests and safety by impeaching Stephanie Martinez and removing her from office.
