Assist Japan with shutting down the Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant

Assist Japan with shutting down the Fukushima Daiichi Power Plant
The Issue
The melting down of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant presents a real danger to the safety of the inhabitants of, not only Japan but, the United States and the entire world. Indeed, the amount of the potential radiation that could be released into the atmosphere would be 85 times that of Chernobyl, suggesting that this issue implicates the possible extinction of our species, if not addressed. While it is true that the United States is facing several complicated domestic issues, the danger presented if the Fukushima nuclear plant were to melt down makes this issue of imminent importance. Therefore, we should support the Japanese government in finding a way to mitigate this risk, and if they will not comply, we need to urge the UN to intervene, as the lives of all Earth's inhabitants are at stake.
