Being parents and concerned community members, we have witnessed continuous episodes of dangerous driving behavior along highway 44 in front of Roby Elementary School during drop-off and pick-up hours. The area is meant to be a single lane but is commonly misused as a two-lane street. Drivers regularly fail to obey the school zone speed limit, endangering not only their lives but also those of our innocent children and their families. We firmly believe that assigning a police officer to direct the traffic or run radar in this area can significantly improve the situation.

Roby Elementary School is meant to be a safe haven for our children, but the current traffic condition has made it a hazard zone. Across the nation, data indicates that roughly 100 children are killed and 25,000 are injured annually in school zone traffic accidents, with speeding and inadequate safety measures contributing to these incidents (Safe Kids Worldwide). We cannot and should not risk the lives of our children due to reckless driving.

Allocating a police officer during critical hours will ensure the enforcement of proper traffic rules and an increased level of safety for both parents and students. The safety and welfare of our children should always be a top priority.
