On November 13, 2014, Ubisoft released its latest installment of its iconic Assassin's Creed franchise, titled Unity. Upon release, due to a questionable level of polish, the game faced significant backlash (which could be considered deserved), tarnishing its reputation. The countless number of bugs was the primary cause of player frustration. Poor game design choices were also criticized, including less accessible combat, a single city, and an excessive number of icons on the map, among other issues.
Furthermore, the fact that two Assassin's Creed games were released in the same month only amplified the general feeling of fatigue surrounding the series. Was Ubisoft pushing the Assassin's Creed franchise too hard? Now, almost 10 years later, we know what happened next. The series only took a brief pause to release Origins, but the pace didn't slow down much. However, despite the initial backlash, some players and the press saw Unity as a turning point for the series. It was supposed to mark the beginning of a new era for the Brotherhood. Finally, being an assassin meant true infiltration; being an assassin meant, as presented in the first trailer of AC 1, openly assassinating targets and blending into the real crowd. While parkour was occasionally rough, it remains the most successful in the series even 9 years later. Visually, the game sometimes outshines contemporary releases. The lore of the assassins was perfectly conveyed and developed.
You only need to look on YouTube to see that content creators continue to garner thousands of views by producing videos about AC Unity.
For many reasons, I believe AC Unity is one of the best in the series, and I also think it was released too early, or Ubisoft failed to recover from the disastrous launch of this episode. Furthermore, considering the most recent release, Assassin's Creed Mirage, which resembles more of a sequel to Assassin's Creed Revelations than the eighteenth game in one of the most profitable video game franchises.
That's why I'm proposing this petition to convince Ubisoft to re-release Assassin's Creed Unity in a state that meets today's standards, with stable crowd management and refined graphics, while also addressing some lingering bugs and drawing inspiration from the community's mods.
Why is Assassin's Creed 2 the best in the series? Because it improved upon everything that the first game offered. But afterwards, Ubisoft kept trying new things and abandoning mechanics without seeking to improve them.
I believe that Assassin's Creed Unity, despite its flaws, is the most modern version the series has offered us. To me, the mythological trilogy is just an exploitative use of the Assassin's Creed name to generate revenue. The games have great qualities, but they are something different in my opinion.
In short, if we could reach 250,000 signatures, it would be fantastic, so please share this petition as widely as possible!
Requiescat in pace.
