Why this petition matters

Started by Kelsey Holt

As a member of the 2020 Assabet Senior Class, it has been very difficult to finish this year without the normal senior activities. With the Coronavirus Pandemic what should have been some of the most fun filled memorable times in our lives has been taken away from us. We realize that we are not the only ones that have been affected by this but, we would like our voices to be heard and our feelings to be recognized. After Governor Baker shared that high school graduations could be held outside after July 19th, we as a class got our hopes up that we might be allowed to have a Graduation Ceremony on our football field. We know that social distancing guidelines need to be met and followed and we feel that this could be done while still providing the Graduation that we all want and most importantly deserve. We should be allowed to have the opportunity to celebrate the most memorable part of our high school experience along with our friends and family while practicing social distancing. We all received today notification of a modified "drive-thru" Graduation only leaving our vehicle for a four minute walk to receive our diploma and leave. I, along with our class; do not think this should be the last memory that we have of our high school years. We are asking you to please reconsider this decision and allow us to walk the stage on our football field and have that be the memory that we take with us. Please let us salvage one event out of the several that we have not been allowed to have due to this horrible pandemic. Please let us remember YOU as the people who have done everything that they could to make sure that we have received the proper send off.
