The Issue

We are writing as concerned citizens and residents of the state of Alabama to strongly urge you not to deploy members of the Alabama National Guard to Washington, D.C.

Our National Guard exists to serve and protect the people of Alabama—especially in times of natural disasters, emergencies, and community needs here at home. Deploying them for federal political purposes in the capital—especially if it involves quelling peaceful protest or intimidating public expression—risks politicizing their role and undermines public trust in these men and women who serve our state.

At a time when our communities continue to face real challenges—from severe weather events to economic hardship—our National Guard should remain focused on serving and supporting Alabama, not being drawn into controversial and potentially dangerous assignments in D.C.

We respectfully ask you to stand firm in protecting the integrity and mission of our state’s Guard by refusing any request to send Alabama troops to Washington for political theater or intimidation. Our state should not be used as a pawn in national power struggles.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. We hope you will put the well-being of Alabamians first and decline any such deployment.
