Ask the North West Provincial government to address sewer spillage issues urgently
The Issue
Our community in Phola Village, Ramosadi, and Seweding Village has been grappling with recurring sewer spillage since 2023. This ongoing crisis is not just a matter of inconvenience—it's a violation of our rights and dignity. We are suffering not only from the foul stench that permeates our environment, but also from the dire health consequences and property damages that come with it. The roads in our villages are marred with open trenches, left by the municipality without any consideration for public health safety, exposing our children and elders to serious risks.
The Ngaka Modiri Molema Municipality has consistently failed to address this issue with the urgency and professionalism it demands. Their unfulfilled promises have only intensified our struggle, leaving us to feel abandoned and stripped of our rights as human beings. Every day, homes in our communities suffer structural damage, with cracks in our buildings becoming an ever-present hazard, further putting lives at risk.
The incidents of pipe bursts and the accompanying mismanagement from the municipality have not only damaged our properties but have gravely affected our health. Many community members have reported illnesses that we believe are tied directly to the neglect of our infrastructure. We believe that our rights to a safe and healthy living environment are being disregarded.
We urgently call upon the North West Provincial Government to intervene. Specifically, we ask for a thorough investigation into the Ngaka Modiri Molema Municipality's handling of this situation and demand immediate action to resolve the ongoing sewer spillage in our community. This includes ensuring that all necessary repairs are made promptly and professionally, and that measures are put in place to prevent this from happening in the future.
We deserve better, and we demand better. Ensuring a safe, healthy, and dignified living environment is a basic right and it is time our voices are heard. We urge the Provincial Government to act swiftly and decisively. Sign this petition to demand the intervention of the North West Provincial Government and help us reclaim our community's safety and dignity.
