The BBC visited a school to ask students and teachers what they thought of our private members' bill (Alistair Srathern MPs bill) and the response was unanimous!
One student put it plainly: "Something does need to be done. There needs to be more awareness, because there's a wide world out there, and when you leave school, you're on your own."
A teacher went further, pointing out that older students are the ones who need Relationships and Sex Education the most: "Actually those students that are 16, 17, 18 are probably more likely to need those things."
That's the core problem with the current system: RSE cuts off at 16, right when, by teachers' own admission, students need it most.

Over the summer parliament will go into recess, but I will be working hard behind the scenes to ensure that when we go back the government will pull their weight and support this private members bill. The next reading ( vote stage) of this bill will be in early December 2026 so please keep signing and sharing and follow along for updates.
This provides the government and potential new Prime Minister Andy Burnham, an opportunity to prove they are serious about their target of halving violence against women and girls by focusing on prevention and supporting this simple change in the law.
Thank you for your continued support over the years and lets keep holding the government to account for their failings - together ,
With my best,
Faustine
