Thank you for over 105,000 signatures!

I'm writing to share an important update with you. Following the recent debate in the House of Commons, the Children and Wellbeing in Schools Bill is now being considered in the House of Lords.

Baroness Ruth Lister has tabled an amendment to the Bill that, if adopted, would turn my campaign's call into a legal change. This amendment has been developed by my campaign in partnership with leading charities: EVAW (End Violence Against Women Coalition), Brook, and the Sex Education Forum. It is also backed by over 55 reputable organisations and trade unions.

This amendment comes at a crucial time. Just last year, the Office for National Statistics revealed that a significantly higher proportion of people aged 16 to 19 were victims of domestic abuse  compared with those aged 55 and over. Yet, the 16–18 age group is exempt from mandatory Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), which could help them identify signs of abusive behaviour and much more. Furthermore, The Youth Endowment Fund found that nearly half (49%) of teenagers they surveyed had experienced violent or controlling behaviour from a partner, with 42% of 16–17-year-olds reporting abuse in relationships (YEF, 2024).

Please continue to sign and share the petition—and watch this space for more updates as the Bill progresses through Parliament.

With gratitude,
Faustine
