Thank You for 95,109 Signatures!
We recently met MP Zarah Sultana and shared our cause with her.
Every single signature means so much to me as a survivor of teenage relationship abuse. Together, we are paving the way for a better and more importantly safer future for young people in England.
Here’s why this petition—and the simple amendment to extend existing RSE to 18-year-olds—is so urgent:
📌 16-19-year-olds face the highest rates of domestic abuse. ONS data (March 2024) shows that 8% of this age group experienced domestic abuse in the past year—higher than any other age group.
📌 Nearly a quarter of teenage girls in relationships experience abuse. WHO (2024) reports that 24%—close to 19 million worldwide—experience physical and/or sexual violence from a partner before they turn 20.
📌 Exposure to violent pornography is widespread. By the age of 18, 79% of young people have accessed violent pornography (Office of the Children’s Commissioner, 2023).
📌 Social media is a major influence on mental health. A staggering 82% of students say social media impacts their mental health—on par with home circumstances (AoC, 2024). Other key factors include substance misuse (62%) and struggles with gender identity (62%). Colleges also report rising social anxiety and difficulties managing relationships.
RSE is proven to help young people develop healthier relationships and make safer choices. So why are 16-18-year-olds excluded—right when they need it most?
Let’s get this petition to 100,000 signatures and take this cause BACK to parliament!
Thank you for your support. 💜
