Ask Texas HHSC Vendor Drug Program to Review Zepound for Texas Medicaid Formulary

The Issue

My name is Jordan Smelley, and I have Bardet-Biedl Syndrome. Unfortunately, I happen to be deathly allergic to Imcivree, which is currently the only FDA-approved medication for my disorder included in the Texas Medicaid Formulary. In addition to Bardet-Biedl Syndrome, I also suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnea, a condition for which Zepbound has been approved by the FDA on the 20th of December, 2024.

The inability to access Zepbound due to its exclusion on the Texas Medicaid Formulary because of it being for weight management only is no longer a valid argument by Texas HHSC Vendor Drug Program.

In light of these circumstances, this petition calls on Texas Health and Human Services Commission Vendor Drug Program to include Zepbound in their Drug Utilization Review Board meeting agenda before the October 2025 meeting which is when GLP-1 Antagonists are usually reviewed. The approval of Zepbound on the Texas Medicaid Formulary would provide a viable option for people like myself suffering from Bardet-Biedl Syndrome and Obstructive Sleep Apnea as well as those on Texas Medicaid with Obstructive Sleep Apnea that have obesity . More importantly, it would correct the potential violation of rights during my fair hearing for Wegovy on Dec 4 2024 which you can view my song around that issue at this link https://youtu.be/KL5-15C4t4I?si=fxaFX1ExaoDXAIGF The health, well-being, and the rights of patients are at stake here.  Your signature can bring about the necessary change.
