- Petition to Ribble Valley Borough Council: Urgent Review of Langho Appeal Decision (Ref 6002485)
We, the undersigned residents and supporters of Langho, Billington and the wider Ribble Valley, call upon Ribble Valley Borough Council to urgently obtain independent specialist legal advice regarding the Planning Inspector's decision dated 11 June 2026 allowing Appeal Ref 6002485 for up to 300 homes on land south of Longsight Road, Langho.
The Planning Inspector acknowledged that the development would cause harm to the character and appearance of the countryside and conflict with local planning policies. However, the appeal was allowed.
Given the significance of this decision and its potential long-term impact on Langho, local infrastructure, traffic, public services, agricultural land and the character of our community, we respectfully request that Ribble Valley Borough Council:
Immediately obtain independent legal advice from specialist planning counsel.
Investigate whether any grounds exist for a statutory challenge to the appeal decision.
Explain the housing land supply position relied upon at the inquiry.
Publish a clear statement before the legal challenge deadline setting out what action the Council intends to take.
Ensure residents are fully informed of any legal options available to the Council.
This petition is not a request to ignore the law or planning process. It is a request for transparency, accountability and proper consideration of all lawful options available following a decision of major significance to our community.
We ask Ribble Valley Borough Council to act urgently given the limited timeframe available for any legal challenge.
Signed,
Residents and supporters of Langho, Billington and the wider Ribble Valley.
