Ask Rep Adler-Arcuri-McNerney-Perlmutter-Shea-Porter to support Equal Immigration Rights!

The Issue

About 200,000 immigrants including some Out4Immigration members marched in Washington DC for an INCLUSIVE Comprehensive Immigration Reform a couple of weeks ago.  In San Francisco, Out4immigration members participated in a march and rally urging immediate action for an INCLUSIVE Comprehensive Immigration Reform.

Our campaign continues to work to educate our congress representatives about the importance of the passage of Uniting American Families Act as well as ensuring that LGBT Families are included in any CIR bill.

While there is no clear indication on whether LGBT Families or the language of Uniting American Families Act is going to be included into the CIR bill or not, we have been told to keep the pressure up and keep telling our congressional leaders in the Judiciary Committee that our families (LGBT Families) needs to be included.

We already have the support of 60 members of congress from the the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Congressional Black Caucus and Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus.  They sent a letter to President Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Sen Schumer, Rep Lofgren expressing their strong support for a comprehensive immigration reform bill that would end discrimination against LGBT binational families.

You can also send our congressional leaders an email urging action on Comprehensive Immigration Reform this year and to make sure that LGBT Families are included.

And on March 4th, 2010, Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) at the Center for Community Change, calls on Congress to include the Uniting American Families Act (UAFA) as part of comprehensive immigration reform. To read the statement put out by FIRM, click here.

Therefore, we should keep the pressure up and make sure that congress understand the issue and includes our families in any Comprehensive Immigration Reform.

This week we are urging Rep. John Adler (D-NJ-3), Rep. Michael Arcuri (D-NY-24), Rep. Jerry McNerney (D-CA-11), Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-CO-7), Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH-2) to support equal immigration rights for same sex binational couples and sponsor the Uniting American Families Act.

We encourage you to take part in this campaign by using one of four options:

(1) The easiest one.   By clicking through and adding your name to this page, you would have sent ALL FIVE of the letters AT ONCE.  You can also provide the link to your friends and family to take action too!;

(2) Contact the 5 senators listed here with your own letter, your own story; or

(3) Creating a booklet telling your story. See http://tinyurl.com/o4i-toolkit1 for more info on this option.

(4) Check out other actions on change.org's action page and sign the other week's action too to urge the other members of congress to sponsor and support the passage of Uniting American Families Act.

Thank you for taking action!

Out4Immigration is an all grassroots organization.  Each week we write to a list of representatives in Congress or the Senate to ask them to support equal immigration rights for Same-Sex Binational couples and to become a cosponsor of the Uniting American Families Act(UAFA) and to support an inclusive Comprehensive Immigration Reform that includes LGBT Families
