Ask Gov Parson: Appoint Special Prosecutor to Investigate Police Deal with Sex Trafficker

Ask Gov Parson: Appoint Special Prosecutor to Investigate Police Deal with Sex Trafficker

The Issue

Columbia Police protected sex trafficker Barry Manthe in exchange for drug arrest information used to wage the "War On Drugs".

Hundreds of police contacts and/or reports document police approval or assistance with Barry Manthe's criminal enterprises over a nearly 30 year association with law enforcement. Even when a good-cop made an arrest, this deal protected Barry Manthe in court as well. Boone County Prosecutor(s) dismissed a felony promoting prostitution charge against Barry Manthe in 2003. In 2014, Barry Manthe was arrested in an FBI Sting and charged with felony promoting prostitution. That felony charge was amended by a Boone County Prosecutor to misdemeanor trespassing with a $250 fine.

Law enforcement protected sex trafficker Barry Manthe in exchange for his information leading to arrests in the "War on Drugs". This deal permitted Manthe to target teenage girls for recruitment. Manthe then used drug addictions and his police/prosecutor connections to coerce women to stay at his brothel and take out his competition.

Missourians need an independent investigation to ensure accountability and justice. Demand Gov. Parsons act now to prevent this from continuing or ever occurring again !
