Ask LALA to end the abuse in its supply chain

Ask LALA to end the abuse in its supply chain
La causa
Mercy For Animals investigators documented the terrible abuses animals endure inside a facility in LALA’s supply chain, including painful mutilations performed without anesthesia or analgesic.
LALA is Mexico’s biggest dairy company, with more than 31 production plants in North America. The company sells a wide variety of products, mainly under the brands LALA and Nutri.
The investigation documented appalling practices considered standard by the dairy industry:
- While tied, cows have their horns cut off with wire, without any anesthesia. The wounds are cauterized with a hot iron, causing the animals inconceivable pain.
- To extract as much milk as possible from the cows, workers violently separate calves from their mothers shortly after birth and prevent them from feeding on their mothers’ milk. Male calves are sent to the slaughterhouse.
- During handling, cows are violently kicked and hit with a long tube. Workers even wring the cows’ tails. One worker at the investigated facility even threw excrement at the animals.
- Cows are hurt with the tool used to trim their hooves. One cow in the facility was bleeding. Such careless handling not only causes severe pain and stress but can lead to infections.
- Cows who have just given birth are forced to stand up to be milked, without any space for recovery.
These images give us insight into the daily abuse and suffering cows endure inside facilities in LALA’s supply chain.
Cows are intelligent, sensitive animals, just like the dogs and cats we know and love. As a civilized society, we have an ethical obligation to protect animals from cruelty, including cows and other farmed animals.
Mercy For Animals Latinoamérica urges LALA to publicly commit to reducing suffering for cows and calves by adopting policies and practices that prevent abuse and ensure better conditions in its supply chain.
Sign this petition to speak out against cruelty and ask LALA to get animal welfare certification for its supply chain through an independent program that ensures cows are free from suffering, pain, injuries, and diseases that result from mistreatment. The program should also ban dehorning without anesthesia and analgesics, include a zero-tolerance policy for beatings and other abuse from workers, and promote conditions that support higher welfare.
Join us so that together we can eliminate animal suffering. And remember, the best way to help farmed animals is to choose plant-based foods.
