Ask Fort Bend ISD to adopt a clear media credential policy for youth creators
The Issue
When I first witnessed myself and other young creators being denied opportunities without a clear or consistent reason, it sparked a realization in me. In some cases, we have been given different explanations for the same type of request, while other times we have received little to no explanation at all. This made me realize how important it is for schools and districts to have clear, transparent policies when it comes to supporting student and youth creators.
For me, this isn’t simply about gaining access to games, events, or athletic programs. It’s about gaining real-world experience that can help build our futures. Every opportunity to film, photograph, create, and showcase our work allows young creators to develop skills and build a portfolio that can open doors to larger opportunities later in life. We cannot be expected to have the experience necessary for future opportunities if we are not given opportunities to gain that experience in the first place.
I firmly believe that schools and districts should be some of the strongest supporters of student creativity. Providing young people with a platform today can help create the photographers, filmmakers, designers, entrepreneurs, journalists, athletes, and content creators of tomorrow. What is at stake is bigger than one game, one event, or one credential. It is about whether young creators have a fair opportunity to develop their skills and demonstrate what they are capable of.
Fort Bend ISD has an opportunity to set an example by establishing a clear, consistent, and transparent media credential policy for youth creators. A policy like this would ensure that creators understand the requirements, know what is expected of them, and receive consistent decisions rather than different answers depending on who they ask.
By recognizing and supporting the ambitions of young creators, Fort Bend ISD can give students access to experiences that allow them to develop their skills, build their portfolios, and prepare for future careers. Supporting youth creators would not only benefit individual students; it could also create a stronger culture of creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation throughout the district.
I am asking Fort Bend ISD to establish a transparent and consistent media credential policy that gives qualified youth creators a fair opportunity to participate. Young creators should not have to wonder why they were denied, receive conflicting explanations, or feel like the door is closed without understanding what they need to do to open it.
This petition is about creating a fairer path forward—not just for me, but for every young creator who wants to learn, create, and build something meaningful. If we want the next generation of creators to succeed, we have to give them the opportunity to gain the experience they need today.
