Why this petition matters

We call upon Eastleigh Borough Council to remain true to its policies when drafting the Local Plan 2011-36 for development:

  1. Addressing local concerns about overdevelopment by ensuring that new housing numbers do not exceed that which are required by Central Government and are based on sound projections.
  2. Protecting the distinctive identities and characters of communities with effective gaps, preventing engulfment with urban sprawl.
  3. Tackling climate change and air pollution issues by locating development close to existing infrastructure.
  4. Respecting outstanding local countryside – recognising that development may impact the South Downs National Park and areas of biodiversity, including the river Itchen and sites of ancient natural woodland.

We believe that Options B and C in the Issues and Options document (December 2015) do not address these issues and should not be included in the Local Plan.
