Halle Quezada started this petition to Chicago Park District Board of Commissioners and

The World Health Organization named DROWNING a neglected public health issue and the CDC says it is the second leading cause of accidental death for young teens.

If you ever have the bad fortune of being on the beach when a child submerges, I can promise you that you will search like hell for something that floats.

Kids are drowning every year on Chicago waters with nothing to protect them when they get into trouble. And for what it's worth, adults should not be dying preventable deaths to known hazards on public parks either. Tell Chicago Park District Board of Commissioners to do what it takes to get life rings on our beaches.

Publicly accessible rescue floatation devices are an obvious solution to reduce the number of drownings on our beaches. These life rings are along our river, they are at our pools, and now we need the Chicago Park District Board to approve them at our Lake.

The cost of the project is less than the cost to tax payers for 911 rescues, medical interventions, and body recoveries on our beaches. It is also less than the cost to our community when a life is lost. Whatsmore, we have secured partial funding from private sponsors. We are too late for too many victims and there is no reason to delay safety equipment any longer.

The Park District Board of Commissioners will be meeting May 12, 2021:
