Ask Chicago Animal Care and Control to protect an at-risk dog
The Issue
Every year, numerous dogs enter the doors of Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC), a municipal facility responsible for protecting and finding homes for the city's vulnerable animal population. Among these dogs, there are some who are at particular risk due to their age, health status, or breed. One such dog currently finds herself in dire need of help and advocacy.
The dog in question, whose identity is being withheld for privacy reasons, is facing a situation where immediate intervention is crucial. She is an older dog and potentially at risk of euthanasia due to overcrowding at the facility. Sadly, stories like hers are more common than they should be, and without public awareness and intervention, many deserving animals might never find a loving home.
Statistics from various animal welfare organizations indicate that senior dogs and those with special needs are adopted at significantly lower rates. According to the Michigan State University College of Law, only about 25% of senior dogs are adopted from shelters. This is a heartbreaking reality for many dogs who, despite being well-behaved and in need of love, are overlooked.
We are calling on Chicago Animal Care and Control to take specific action to protect this dog by seeking partnerships with local rescue organizations that specialize in rehoming older and special needs animals, implementing urgent foster programs that can provide temporary homes, and launching community awareness campaigns to highlight her story and those of similar animals.
By making these efforts, not only can we increase the chances of finding a permanent home for this vulnerable dog, but we can also draw attention to the challenges faced by at-risk dogs in shelters citywide. We urge animal lovers and advocates to stand with us in our effort to save this precious pup and others like her.
Please sign this petition and join us in calling for immediate action to ensure this dog's safety and give her a chance at a loving future.
